Day 12: Self-Preservation
Finish Reading Chapter 6
Wow! Wow, is about the only thing I can say after this chapter. Feelings are such an easy trap set by the enemy to get us out of the will of God. If you’re being led by your feelings you can convince yourself that God is saying something that He didn’t even say. For example, many people have thought God was leading them to leave a church but were in fact being led by their feelings. Ultimately, if we’re being led by our feelings then we are walking in our own will and unable to hear what God is truly saying. The sad thing is, at this point, we’ve left offended and that offense goes with us to the next church and the cycle starts all over again. However, it must be said that if we choose to stay, we must be careful not to express our feelings to everyone in the church in order to justify what we are feeling. That is what the Bible calls, “sowing discord among the brethren.”
“There are six things the Lord hates—no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family” - Proverbs 6:16-19
“And now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people’s faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them. Such people are not serving Christ our Lord; they are serving their own personal interests. By smooth talk and glowing words they deceive innocent people.”
- Romans 16:17-18
God is serious about the local church and we as His children must do everything we can to protect His house. Let’s remain free from offense so that we can accomplish all God has for us to do and most importantly, be a light to the lost!
