The Missing Ingredient
Pastor Kempie Womble
Jesus has given each of us a blueprint to live by to have victory in our lives.
In Matthew 6, Jesus gives us instructions on how to live as children of God: what to do when we pray, what to do when we give, and what to do when we fast. He doesn’t say, if you pray, if you give, or if you fast, rather, when to pray, when to give, and when to fast. So, praying, giving, and fasting are a package deal that when mixed together produces powerful results.
In Mark 9, the disciples ask Jesus why they couldn’t cast out the demon and Jesus replied, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” So, this tells me fasting is an important ingredient to prayer. Fasting produced enough power in Mark 9 to set a man free from demonic spirits.
What set him free? Not just praying but praying and fasting.
Most Christians pray and give as a normal way of life. Is fasting just a yearly event in your life or do you set aside a time for fasting?
Jesus makes it clear that praying, giving, and fasting are normal parts of a Christian’s life. So, as believers, fasting should be a regular occurrence in our lives. Praying, giving, and fasting produces a powerful package!
Fasting could be the missing ingredient to your unanswered prayers.
Just a thought!
28 And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”
29 So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”
