The Human Spirit: Chapter 5

By now we have learned how to grow our spirit:

  • Meditate on the Word
  • Practice the Word
  • Make the Word first place in our lives

And the fourth, how we measure and truly tell how much we have grown, is to obey instantly! God doesn't just want obedience, He wants instant obedience. God speaks to our spirits or as we call it our conscious. Too many times, we talk ourselves out of what our conscious is speaking to us, when we should be obeying.

But wait, what if it is the enemy talking? Well if we are mediating on the Word, practicing the Word, and putting the Word into first place in our lives, then we can be sure that our spirit man will know the voice of God.

"When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. he will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, 'The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.'

                                                                                           John 16:13-15

Let me give you an example in Pastor Kempie's life. He was working as an adjuster with an insurance company. One day as he walked in the office, the phone rang and Pastor Kempie was offered a job that required many more years of experience than what he had. Sounds like the favor and blessing of God doesn't it? As he was moving furniture into the new office, every time he would cross the threshold, he would get sick to his stomach. When he walked back outside, he would feel fine. This happened several times.

He called me on the phone and said, "Lisa, I am not supposed to be here." Pastor Kempie turned down that job and showed up at the church. He knew that was where he was supposed to be. That was the leading of the Holy Spirit and obedience was the only solution.

As Kenneth Hagin says, "Let's get thrilled with the Word of God. Walk in the light of it. Claim what the Word promises and you will reap its benefits."

Today, we're talking about continuing to develop our spirit man. So far we have learned the importance of the Word of God.

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God
— Matthew 4:4

1. Meditate on the Word

2. Act on the Word.

3. Give first place to the Word.

The Word should be such a priority in our life that no matter what circumstance arises, our first response is, "what does the Word say?". When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, the first thing that came out of His mouth was the Word of God. When we are tempted we too should respond with the Word.

Many times we want to talk it over with other people and get their advice regarding a situation or need. Instead, we should be so full of the Word that we know to run into the presence of God to get His advice and instructions.

"If you gripe, complain, fuss, and fret, you're not going to get answers. That may be the reason your answer hasn't come yet - perhaps you are fretting about it. The Bible tells us to "Be careful for nothing"; or, as The Amplified Bible says, "Do not fret about anything" (Phil 4:6)" - page 53

Let's cast all our cares and worries on the Lord and take up the Word of God. Read it, meditate on it, and make it first in your life!

The Human Spirit: Chapter 3

In chapter 2 we learned about developing or growing our spirit man. As our spirit (the real us) grows we can bring our mind, emotions, will, and body in line with the Word of God.

Step 1 : Meditate on the Word of God.
It sounds simple but it takes discipline

Step 2: Put the Word into practice
In other words, take the knowledge found in the Word of God and apply it to your life in order to change. After reading the scriptures, we will only have knowledge if we do not allow it to change our behavior and the way we think. Knowledge is power only when we practice or apply it with action.

But don’t just listen to God’s Word. You must do what it says, otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
— James 1:22

"Being doers of the Word" is not about what we don't do, it's about what we do! Going to church and just reading our Bible is not enough. We have to put it into practice, we have to let it change us.

"I am so glad God has something better for us than an occasional blessing. This faith life is an entire way of life." - Kenneth E. Hagin (The Human Spirit p.40)

Put it into practice today!

Turn worry into praise
Turn grumbling into thankfulness
Turn trials into triumphs

I am so grateful that life with Jesus is greater than anything I could ever imagine!

The Human Spirit: Chapter 2

With God all things are possible! Yes, that means our spirit man can grow and mature, no matter who you are, it is possible. How do we develop or mature our spirit man? The Word of God gives us the answer but it is up to us to do it.

” We do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
— Mark 4:4

The Bible, the written Word of God, is our "spirit food." It nourishes, fortifies, and strengthens our spirits. Our spirit is the part of us that communes with or fellowships with God. we are never satisfied apart from God. Without a relationship and exchange with Him, giving and receiving love, we die.

While working in the hospital, I watched a man die simply because he didn't have anyone in his life to feel love or give love to. Feeling all alone, he failed to live. While this is extreme, if we do not feed our spirit man, it to will die. We will fail to grow and mature and will remain immature or babies.

Baby Christians are identified by their actions and their words. Salvation and baptism of the Holy Spirit should affect your body and your mouth. To begin developing or feeding our spirit man, we must first meditate on the Word of God.

How?

1. Read a verse or passage over and over

2. Begin to memorize all or part of it

3. Listen - quiet your heart to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you through God's Word.

4. Consider how it fits with the rest of the Bible and life in general.

5. Become emotionally involved, allow yourself to feel what God feels, His desires expressed through His Words.

6. Move from mediation to application - connect your thoughts to action. Consider how the truth an power of the Word of God should affect your behavior.

The Human Spirit: Chapter 1

Recap: We are a spirit, we possess a soul, and we live in a body.

The Human Spirit: Chapter 1
Online PDF available to read or purchase in our bookstore & cafe

Now that we have discussed spirit, soul, and body, let's focus on the real us - our spirit. We tend to ignore our spirit man except on Sunday, yet our spirit man can be trained, educated, and is the only part of us that will live forever.

“When we have been born again and have the nature of God abiding within us, we can develop our spirit to higher levels of worship and service to God.”
— Kenneth E. Hagin

Now that our spirit is born again we need our soul and body to change. They both need to be renewed, restored, and saved. This way our spirit is in control instead of our mind, emotions, will, or flesh. The answer is the Word of God. When your mind is renewed with the Word of God, your spirit (through the renewed mind) can control the body.

So, let's get in the Word and let our spirits dominate every part of us!

The Threefold Nature of Man Chapters 5 & 6

The real you, the part that is made new in your spirit man. This is the part the will live forever. The part that receives eternal life.

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
— John 10:10

The word "life" in the scripture above translates to the word zoe which means the God kind of life. Your life is to be the zoe life. Zoe is the God kind of life, the way He designed it. God is love and when your spirit is recreated it is filled with love and the capacity to love.

The Holy Spirit communes with your spirit to teach, train, convict, restore, and change you into the image of Jesus Himself.

"We must learn to let our spirits dominate our minds if we are going to be successful Christians. To walk by faith means to walk by the Word and to let our hearts and the inward man control us."

Make sure to read chapter 6! It holds so much information and wisdom. Let's get ready to dive into the next book. Comment below if you have learned anything so far!

Pastor Lisa Womble

The Threefold Nature of Man Chapter 4

"And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice - the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him." Romans 12:1 NLT

The body - the outward man, the physical, the house in which we live. This is the thing that gives us so much trouble, and yet we are to bring it into subjection. We are the caretakers, and are responsible for what our bodies do. We are not to be carnal Christians.

God expects us to have control over our bodies and not let them dominate us.

Paul says in I Corinthians 9:27 that it is the man on the inside, our spirit and real "us", that is to keep our bodies in line with the Word. Our spirit man is made new, reborn, and now our "bodies" or "what we do" and "how we act" is to change.

The choice is ours. Let's dominate our flesh and present it to God as a living sacrifice!

-Pastor Lisa Womble

The Threefold Nature of Man Chapter 3

Our soul consists of our emotions, thoughts and will. This is the one and only way the enemy has to get to us. This is why Paul said in Romans 12:2 to renew our mind.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. When you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
— Romans 12:2 NLT

The only way to renew your mind is with the word of God.

How do you renew your mind?
1. Feed upon God's Word in your own private study and meditation.
2. Listen to a faith message everyday.

By doing this, our minds are transformed to think like God thinks, and soon, we act like God wants us to.

- Pastor Lisa Womble

The Threefold Nature of Man Chapters 1-2

May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it!
— 1 Thessalonians 5:23 MSG

We must understand that we are a spirit being who possesses a soul and lives in a body.  Our spirit connects with God and our soul is our thoughts, emotions, and our body which allows us to live in this physical realm. The confusion comes because the church has portrayed spirit and soul as the same thing.

The church talks about winning souls yet in reality we are after spirits. Our spirit man is reborn and is going to live forever. It is our spirit that connects with God.

  • Body - physical realm
  • Spirit - spiritual realm
  • Soul - feeling, thinking, doing

Two Kinds of Righteousness: Chapter 18-20

I pray by now that you understand who you are in Christ, in right standing with Him. Our ability to walk in all God has for us is dependent on our belief in the Word of God. We have boldness, courage, and confidence to enter into the presence of God and ask God for whatever we need.

“But my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him.”

— Hebrews 10:38

We are His righteous ones! How awesome is that? We can rise above any circumstance, rule and reign as a child of God. Nothing can shake us, nothing can cause us to quit, nothing can frighten us. We can and should live differently than anyone else.

So let's do like E.W. Kenyon, and put on our righteousness. Start confessing that He is our Righteousness, and then start acting like it!

“Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father.”
— Matt 13:43

Now that we understand righteousness we will dive into 2 books next month. The Human Spirit and The Threefold Nature of Man both by Kenneth Hagin.

Two Kinds of Righteousness: Ch. 15-17

RIGHTEOUSNESS MAKES US MASTERS OF EVIL
FRUITS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

And increase the fruits of your righteousness
— 2 Corinthians 9:10

Have you ever thought about the "fruits of your righteousness?" If you are the righteousness of God in Christ, if you are a child of God and a joint heir with Jesus, then it should show in all we say and do. In other words, people should be able to tell. How does that translate in our everyday life?

Kenyon gives us a great list:

  • blessing and helping others
  • healing the sick
  • opening the Word to others
  • breaking the power of the devil over others
  • teaching them how to live in the will of the Father
  • teaching them how to enjoy all the fullness of His grace
  • showing a fearless fellowship with the Father
  • no fear of the enemy
  • a mastery over all circumstances

Because we serve a God of the impossible, we can do the impossible! Is your life producing the fruits of your righteousness? Paul calls it our "crown of righteousness." Miracles should be an everyday occurrence in our lives. As Kenyon says, "They are unveiling to the world that Christianity is supernatural."

WE ARE supernatural beings, who serve a supernatural God! Let's start acting like it!

Two Kinds of Righteousness: Chapter 12-14

By now I pray that you are embracing who you are in Christ. Your position as a son or daughter of God, a joint heir with Jesus, and the temple of the Holy Spirit should give you a sense of freedom you never had before. With that freedom comes a sense of confidence. We are overcomers; we are victorious. God is our way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, and our light in the darkness.

You cannot fail

When we read the daring stories of the Old Testament characters, we get excited. And yet, they were under the Old Covenant. Their righteousness was granted to them with limits. We are not granted righteousness, we are made righteous. It is unlimited

Let's examine ourselves and make sure that we are not limiting our ability to walk in our righteousness. Take the limits off: Renew our minds by reading the Word and pray (or communicate) with God.

Two Kinds of Righteousness : Chapter 11

God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
— 1 Corinthians 1:9

Did you know you were called into fellowship with God? We are not just to exist but to fellowship with Him. Fellowship means communion with God. It is vital for us to fellowship with Jesus daily and the best way to do this is to commune with His Word. E.W. Kenyon states,

"The most vital, and the one that means the most to us, is our fellowship with the Word. We have this Revelation from the heart of the Father to feed upon. Matt. 4:4, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Daily, we feed and meditate upon the Word until men and women feel the presence and power of the Unseen One in our lives. We face life's problems fearlessly. Rev. 12:11, "And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the word of their testimony." The Word here is "Logos". It is Jesus. They overcame him by the Word."

The key word here is - daily. We get to feed and meditate upon His Word and fellowship with the Father daily. Wow! What a privilege. Because he made us righteous we can commune with an almighty God as our Father every single day. And as we do this, E.W. Kenyon describes,

"We may be going through hard places. We may be suffering. There may not be much happiness for us in this life, but there can be joy. Happiness comes from our surroundings; joy comes from our recreated hearts. We have Him in our hearts. He will strengthen us, establish us, until our lives become like Jesus' life. Eph. 5:1-2, "Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children (or children of love)."

Let's make a daily commitment to fellowship with Jesus and watch as He strengthens us and establishes us!

How do you spend time in fellowship with God daily? Comment below!

Two Kinds of Righteousness: Chapters 9-10

When we look at our world and all of its problems, we know that something needs to change. The only thing that will change it is an understanding of the amazing love of God. A love so amazing that God sent and Jesus came to pay the penalty for our sin. we have been washed clean, and have been recreated into something new.  A new kind of life.  We went from a sin nature to a nature of God.

How is this different?

Old Righteousness (Covenant)                                           New Righteousness (Covenant)

works                                                                                               grace

   limited                                                                                            unlimited

"And my righteous ones shall live by faith"

Heb 10:38

Because of our right standing with God and our new nature, we can see God as a Father instead of a ruler/judge. He longs for our fellowship and He wants to be involved in every aspect of our lives. Fellowship with God should be an everyday part of your life. Wake up and talk to Him, talk to Him throughout the day, and let it be the last thing you do at night.

Two Kinds of Righteousness: Chapters 7-8

Book : Pages 27-35
Online PDF : Pages 16-20

One of the greatest tools the enemy uses to rob us of the ability to live by faith is to keep us feeling unworthy. If Satan can keep us aware of sin he has won. We will so be sin conscious we will not be able to grasp all that God wants for us and unable to walk in the freedom He desires for us.

He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God.
— Romans 4:25 NLT

When we believe in His resurrection, we too are raised with Him. If Jesus was made righteous that He could come out of Hell and go into Heaven, sit at the right hand of God and be accepted, then so can we!

We become brand new creations in Him, all the old me, the sin nature has been replaced with a new nature. We leave Satan's Kingdom and become part of God's Kingdom. Our minds, our thoughts, our emotions, and our will must operate out of the new Kingdom. We learn all about this new kingdom through reading and meditating on the Word of God.

Let's walk in our righteousness and freedom.

Two Kinds of Righteousness: Chapters 4-6

What is righteousness? Let's take a trip back to the beginning, God created male and female in His image and placed them in the Garden of Eden. Life was perfect, God would visit them daily and talk with them. Nothing could be better, the temperature was perfect, the humidity was perfect, and no gnats! All of that changed because of one decision, one bite of forbidden fruit and sinned entered the world.

Everything changed at that moment. There was now a barrier between us and God. we lost our right standing or our ability to stand in the presence of God. For the barrier to be gone, the price of sin had to be paid and until Jesus came we had a temporary solution. The blood of goats and sheep could only cover our sin and we needed our sins to be washed away permanently.

For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.
— Luke 19:10

Jesus came to pay the price for us to be able to stand in the presence of God once more.

what was saved:

  • our fellowship with the Father
  • our ability to be guiltless
  • our ability to be free of condemnation
  • our prosperity
  • our peace
  • our rest
  • our freedom

Our sins have been washed away, like they have never been there before, no scars, and made brand new.

If He, who had been spiritually dead and made sin with our sin, could be made Righteous and rstored to perfect fellowship with the Father, then on legal grounds God can recreate us and give us the same Righteousness and fellowship enjoyed by the Master.
— Two Kinds of Righteousness page 26

The roles have been reversed - Now Satan fears you!
