Day 1: Me Offended?
(read pages. 5-6 stopping at The Heart’s True Condition)
As you read the first couple of pages it is evident that the opportunity to be offended will come from those we love and respect the most. Jesus warned us, Paul warned us, and yet we are still shocked when it happens.
I think of offense as the poisonous apple the wicked witch held out to Snow White. The enemy is standing there with the offense on a silver platter, from someone you know (who may or may not be a witch). The poison (offense) is still in the apple, still on the platter, and it can only harm you if you take it, chew it (meditate on it), and swallow it (let it take root). As long as the apple stays on the platter, it is completely harmless to you. Don’t think about it again. Don’t replay it.
DON’T BITE THE APPLE!
Offense is always there; it may even have been hurled at you. Through acts or words, it’s there, but you don’t have to bite it, chew on it, and go over it, again and again. You don’t have to swallow and allow it to take place within you.
We all have a choice. Choose today to forgive!
