Growing Up Spiritually: Chapter 11

Last week we talked about the carnal (natural) man. We all begin as a carnal Christian, our spirit man gets reborn, but our flesh, the carnal part initially stays the same. Paul tells us that there are things we have to do in order to continually strengthen our spirit man and not be ruled by our flesh.

A spiritual man has the following characteristics:

  • Knows and understands who they are in Christ and walks in it

  • Feeds on the Word daily

  • Walks in love

  • Knows the Father intimately

“….. I knew in my spirit He could become more real to me than my wife, more real to me that either of my children.” - p. 128

Jesus is more than just our Savior, He is our High Priest, our Advocate, our Intercessor, our Shepherd, and our Lord! If you don’t know how Jesus operates in each of these areas — start studying! When you really understand what He has done for us, through us, and in us, you begin to know Him more intimately and as a result you will begin to grow.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know that things that are freely given to us of God.
— 1 Corinthians 2:12

Make a decision today, to know Him more and more! You can always know Him more deeply and more intimately. There are so many names of God, I mentioned just a few above. Which of these names or attributes is your favorite? If you had to name one which one would it be? Comment on the facebook post this week and fill in the blank “God is my _____________.”

Love you,

Pastor Lisa
