Intro

It is hard to believe that this book was written by someone who has been dead for 40 years. Our world is in chaos, hate is raging at an all time high. We wear our emotions on our sleeve and it drives our decisions even if it goes against God and His Word.

And yet God has called us as His children to be different than everyone else in the world. That difference is how we love. John tells us that God is Agape. We partake of God’s nature and that makes us sons of love. Let’s explore this agape love and learn to agape like the children of God.

Chapters 1 & 2 Blog by Pastor Lisa

Love is God! We have this God, this Love, living inside of us. Jesus Himself personified this love. the same love that He had is the same love that is to rule the hear of man. Jesus has asked us to “love one another even as I have loved you.”

Have you asked yourself what “even as” is?

How did Jesus love us? Hebrews 12:2 tell us it was because of the joy set before Him! He gave His life!

When we think of others or place others before ourselves, we experience a peace and a joy that we cannot even comprehend. This joy and this peace is what we all long for and yet it can be ours if we love “even as” He has loved us.

Love is the very reason we exist. Man would not have been created without love and since the beginning of time, Satan has worked diligently to altar, distort, and redefine love.

The new covenant that God has with man is a love covenant. It is to be our way of life, a daily walk. When we refuse to walk in love, we step out of the will of God. Our fellowship with Him is broken and our faith weakens.

Read 1 John 3: 13-24

Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love [a]his brother abides in death. 15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 19 And by this we [b]know that we are of the truth, and shall [c]assure our hearts before Him. 20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. 22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave [d]us commandment. 24 Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

God demands and expects us to love one another as He loved us.
